In brief: campus news and notes

Enhanced VPN accessible

The Office of Information Technology has enhanced its virtual private network (VPN), allowing for access to campus network file storage, printers and other peripheral devices while off-campus.

Students, faculty and staff with a Georgia Tech account can use the VPN from almost any location off campus.

Drama camp registration

Georgia Tech’s Ferst Center for the Arts will offer a Summer Day Camp for the Performing Arts, from June 8 through July 2.

The camp, for ages 8 to 13, covers four weeks, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost for faculty and staff is $675 per attendee, with a sibling discount available. Call Sara Warner at 385-4219 for more information.

Beattie recognized by ACCED-I

The Association of Collegiate Conference and Events Directors-International (ACCED-I) recognized Housing Office project coordinator Jennifer Beattie with its Volunteer of the Year award at its March 24 meeting.

Under construction

In light of all the campus construction under way, Facilities will maintain a construction impact Web site, updated regularly to include work that impacts foot and vehicle traffic.

Work does pay with tax credit

Making Work Pay, the centerpiece of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, enables an income tax credit through reduced withholding on workers’ paychecks for 2009 and 2010. Amounts are $400 for individuals and $800 for married, filing jointly.

The Office of Human Resources wants to remind Tech employees that the tax reduction is based on W4 status. If an individual works two jobs or a spouse works full time, both employers are applying the tax savings.

Adjust the W4 to prevent from being under-withheld. To adjust withholding, log in to TechWorks.

Online parking permit registration begins

Online registration for 2009-2010 parking continues through June 30. To register, visit the Parking and Transportation Web site, and click on the registration prompt. Questions should be directed to info.parking@parking.gatech.edu.
