InVenture Prize winners named

The winning individial and team are announced at the inaugural InVenture Prize competition.
Dialprice creator Roger Pincombe and Chlorocyte Bioreactor creators Joseph Abrahamson, William Boyd, Sanjay Challa, Kento Masuyama and Andrew Punnoose won the InVenture Prize in their respective fields.

The 2009 InVenture Prize competition came to a close March 30, as one individual and one team were named the winners.

College of Management Professor Terry Blum, College of Computing Distinguished Professor Merrick Furst, Regents’ Professor David Ku, with the School of Mechanical Engineering and the College of Management, and Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Joy Laskar evaluated eight inventions, including those by winners Roger Pincombe for Dialprice and Joseph Abrahamson, William Boyd, Sanjay Challa, Kento Masuyama and Andrew Punnoose for their Chlorocyte Bioreactor.

Winners received cash prizes, a paid internship to work on their ideas and free business services. Innovators Steve Dickerson, Christopher W. Klaus and Pete Petit selected the competition winners.

“The judges did another great job using the same criteria we advertised and have been using,” said Vice Provost for Graduate and Undergraduate Studies Ray Vito. “Having the ‘decision makers’ make the final decision using more personal questions added a lot to the competition. Students told us that having the attention of so prominent a group really added to the experience.”
